PLUSHY
GUARDIAN

A very small guardian defends a very tiny forest from slimes, bats, angry mushrooms, and several deeply unreasonable old trees.

The Plushy Guardian
Creator's Notes

Why there is a magical plushy on my website

Playing D&D with my family, one of my favorite things that happened was the discovery of a certain magical plushy. We all liked it, and I thought it would make a fun mascot for an experiment while I build out parts of my website.

So ChatGPT built me a tiny game using the Game Studio tool. You can find it here. Try it out. Try it on your phone. Leave some feedback!

Now I’m going to compete with Chat and see if I can reproduce the same thing using Godot. I’ll use the website to keep up with the process so you can compare the two versions and how they were made.

Let me know what you think.

About the game

Small, readable, and just derpy enough.

Guide the Plushy Guardian through corrupted pockets of the Tiny Forest. Survive three enemy waves, recover lost stuffing, and cleanse the blighted tree waiting at the heart of each level.

The prototype is built directly for the browser, with quick sessions and phone-friendly controls so a new idea can go from conversation to something playable without becoming a six-month production.

Build Notes

Newest changes first. Every patch leaves a footprint.

Adaptive audio

Every scene gets a theme

  • Expanded the procedural soundtrack into distinct game-state themes.
  • Added a sleepy, melody-rich welcome theme and a faster rock-and-roll bad-guy track for combat.
  • Added a bright synthesized-trumpet fanfare and celebration loop for successful level clears.
Level 3

The Crimson Capwood

  • Added the third playable forest level with a red, spore-lit palette.
  • Made mushrooms the dominant enemy and added skittering, standard, and bruiser-like procedural variants.
  • Added the Sporeheart Tree finale and a complete three-level progression.
Level 2

The Violet Canopy

  • Added a purple forest region led by bat swarms.
  • Introduced bat size, stretch, color, and movement variation without multiplying the art workload.
  • Added level-to-level victory flow and the Twilight Old Tree encounter.
Enemies

The forest gets crowded

  • Added the three core enemy families: slime, bat, and mushroom.
  • Gave each family a distinct procedural movement style so simple art still reads with personality.
  • Added controlled scaling, stretching, and hue variation for lightweight enemy variety.
Audio

Boops, doots, and forest noises

  • Added a light procedural background track with a cheerful starting-area feel.
  • Added varied attack, dodge, movement, hurt, and healing sound effects.
  • Kept audio behind the welcome interaction so it starts reliably on desktop and mobile.
First playable

The Slime Clearing

  • Published the first playable browser build with keyboard and touch controls.
  • Added the Guardian, aiming wisp, vine spell, dodge, recoverable stuffing, three waves, and a blighted-tree finale.
  • Made aim direction persist after movement so attacks remain predictable on touch screens.
The forest is waiting
